Furano Snow Dome Festival

When : From late December to the end of March
Where : Furano Ski Area/ Kitanomine Zone

At the base of the Kitanomine Ski Area, near the gondola, just up from the pensions and hotels and just down from the Prince Hotel, Furano Tourist Association, in conjunction with the Furano’s local companies, volunteers and ski area workers, build huge Snow Domes where you can partake in a number of activities and try delicious local delicacies. At the Snow Dome site you can get local drinks like hot local wine and cool beer drunken from freshly carved ice glasses. Children and adults alike can pick up a block of ice and a pick and hammer and carve a glass to drink from. It truly gives new meaning to the term ‘a chilled glass’. You can also get a real glass glass if you want to get a drink a little faster.

Every Friday night and Saturday during the ski season there are events held at the Snow Dome site. There are both traditional and contemporary concerts, traditional food fairs and giveaways. The ski area hosts ski and snowboard events with the celebrations taking place at the Snow Domes. Friday night often sees rice caking making demonstrations and giveaways.

All events are aimed at a wide audience and everyone will be sure to find something to enjoy.
